School district personnel operate non-stop throughout the workday leaving little quality time for managing special initiatives that are needed to support at-risk students. Come hear about how the partnership developed between Irving ISD and Big Brothers Big Sisters and how two large organizations jumped every hoop to create a seamless, effective school based mentoring program, complete with full support from the city, which recruited employees as the first mentors for the project.

A ten school district strategy to increase direct-from-high-school-to-college-enrollment to 64% by 2010. A tight partnership between school district college enrollment managers, higher education and business leaders has delivered disciplined strategies, targets and outcomes in college common application submission, financial aid submission, college/workplace readiness and student survey feedback, to positive results.

Turning your Cheering Section into High Scoring Team Players - Kris Taylor, APR, Director of Communications, Janet Theis, Partners in Education Coordinator, Katy ISD
Using research and its own experiences with public involvement, Katy ISD created a program for emerging leaders representing a snapshot of the community. Its goal: To develop an expanding and evolving cadre of active, well-informed community supporters familiar with both operations and issues. Each year, a new class participates in a series of monthly sessions focusing on topics ranging from finance to curriculum development. Leadership Katy ISD has earned top awards from Texas and National School Public Relations Associations in recognition of exemplary programs.

40 Assets Lunch Bunch and the "Untraining” - Julie Jerome, Chief Information Officer, Hays CISD Billie Franke, Community Partner
The 40 Assets framework was introduced to Hays CISD in 2003, but the effort fizzled in the absence of a district-wide commitment. Most employees of Hays CISD did not understand the concept and were intimidated by the perceived amount of work involved. The 40 Assets Lunch Bunch's job, through "untraining", is to build awareness of intentional asset building in students and staff, and break down barriers to understanding the culture of the 40 Developmental Assets.

Learn ways to reignite the enthusiasm for the Foundation through minor calibrations rather than major overhaul.

The Craft Training Center of the Coastal Bend (CTCCB) a non profit educational organization supported by the petrochemical industry, is currently partnered with 13 school districts to deliver industrial training to high school students. The CTCCB is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), which enables high school students completing CTCCB courses to receive National certifications and to be included in the NCCER's National Registry.

At Bastrop ISD we start each year with a bang to show our students that the community as a whole is behind them to be successful with the annual celebration of education, Back-to-School BASH. This family oriented, community event presents an excellent opportunity to provide students with the motivation and encouragement they need to succeed in the classroom. Each district knows that education and academic excellence can only be achieved with family and community support. Each community business/organization that attends the event has the opportunity to share information about the type of products/services they provide and to distribute relevant materials while showing their support for the students of Bastrop ISD.

The BP Physics Challenge program is a unified effort between BP America, Space Center of Houston and Houston ISD to excite and motivate students towards choosing careers in the Sciences, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering by providing real-world experiences. The BP Physics Challenge consists of a two-day teacher-training provided by an Astronaut, a full day of real-world, hands-on science activities for the students held at Space Center Houston and over 60 BP scientists and engineers who work with students and teachers throughout the program. We have received local coverage each year with the event and have successfully continued to grow and include new school districts in the program.

Polls, the media and bond elections suggest that support of public education is declining despite the fact that America is doing a pretty good job educating more students than ever before. This is a multimedia presentation designed to help stakeholders communicate about public education. In 2009, Education Capital will train "education ambassadors" to make the presentation in their own communities.
