The goal of Promise Neighborhoods is to improve the lives and academic achievements of young people living around poverty areas. Mentoring is a large component of Promise Neighborhoods and plays a vital role in achieving the goals of preparing these students for success academically and in life. Mentoring helps keep the young people away from harmful behaviors such as drugs or violence and encourages them to find their strengths so that they can succeed personally and professionally.
Promise Neighborhoods collaborates with nonprofit, community-based organizations. Grantees will be encouraged to coordinate their efforts with programs and services provided by federal agencies, including the departments of Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency.
